Asylum-seekers intercepted north of Darwin

A SUSPECTED asylum-seeker boat carrying 88 people has been intercepted by Customs northwest of Darwin.

The vessel was discovered by a Customs aircraft on Sunday, the Border Protection Command said.

“Initial reporting suggests there are 88 passengers and two crew on board,” it said in a statement.

The passengers will be taken to Christmas Island for health checks.
