Asylum boats intercepted

Home Affairs Minister, in media statements has reported arrival of three asylum seeker boats in past three days.

The first boat had been assisted on Wednesday by ACV Ocean Protector, operating under the coordination of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC Australia) north-north-east of Christmas Island. It had reportedly been carrying 68 passengers.

Meanwhile, two more boats carrying 38 and 43 asylum seekers respectively, have been intercepted near Christmas Island and north-north-west of Darwin yesterday.

They will transferred to Christmas Island for initial checks.
