Two asylum seeker boats intercepted near Christmas Island

Home Affairs Minister, in statements, reported arrival of two more boat load of asylum seekers near Christmas Island.

HMAS Warramunga, operating under the coordination of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s Rescue Coordination Centre rendered assistance to first boat which was carrying 136 passengers and two crew members on Saturday north-east of Christmas Island.

Second boat carrying 68 people has been provided assistance by HMAS Glenelg and HMAS Warramunga north of Christmas Island on Sunday.

They have been transferred to Christmas Island for initial health, identity and security checks.
