Asylum seeker boat with more than 200 on board intercepted near Christmas Island

A boat carrying more than 200 asylum seekers has been intercepted north of Christmas Island on Saturday morning.

The boat, with 203 asylum seekers and three crew on board, is one of the biggest stopped by border protection authorities this year.

The group has been taken to Christmas Island for initial security and identity checks.

Home Affairs Minister reported interception of another boat carrying 26 asylum seekers north of Christmas Island on Saturday afternoon.
