Two asylum seeker boat intercepted in Australian waters

Home Affairs Minister’s office – in a media statement –  reported interception of two more vessels carrying asylum seekers.

HMAS Bathurst, operating under the control of Border Protection Command, intercepted the a boat, which was reportedly carrying 71 people, near north-west of Christmas Island on Friday.

Border Protection Command has transferred all the passengers to Christmas Islad for initial health, identity and security checks

Another boat-load of asylum seekers had also been intercepted by Border Protection ship north-east of Ashmore Islands on Thursday. According to initial reports, it was carrying 86 people.

They will be transferred to Darwin.
