Asylum seeker boat intercepted near Christmas Island

A boat, reportedly, carrying  39 asylum seekers and two crew members has been intercepted north east of Christmas Island on Wednesday. The vessel was initially detected by a Border Protection surveillance aircraft.

All passengers have now been transferred to the island where they will undergo initial health, identity and security checks.
