TWO more asylum seeker boats intercepted

HMAS Larrakia, operating under the coordination of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s Rescue Coordination Centre, has rendered assistance to a suspected irregular entry vessel that sought assistance east of Christmas Island on Thursday.

Initial indications suggests there are 132 passengers and three crew on board.

Border Protection Command has transferred the passengers to Australian Government authorities at Christmas Island, where they will undergo initial security, health and identity checks and their reasons for travel will be established.

HMAS Armidale, operating under the control of Border Protection Command, intercepted a suspected irregular entry vessel north-west of Darwin on Sunday.

Initial indications suggest there are 77 passengers and three crew on board.

The vessel was initially detected by a RAAF maritime patrol aircraft, operating under the control of Border Protection Command.

For operational and safety reasons, Border Protection Command has made arrangements for the passengers to be transferred to Australian Government authorities in Darwin, where they will undergo initial security, health and identity checks and their reasons for travel will be established.
