Asylum boats reached Australian shores

TWO boats carrying more than 100 asylum-seekers have intercepted in Australian waters.

Border Protection Command intercepted the first boat west of Christmas Island on Monday. It was reportedly carrying 77 passengers.

Yesterday, Navy ship HMAS Launceston operating under Border Protection Command intercepted another vessel which was carrying 24 passengers.

All passengers are transferred to Christmas Island for initial health and identity checks.
