Boat with 150 asylum seekers intercepted near Christmas Island

One hundred and fifty asylum seekers have been transferred to Christmas Island for processing after their boat was detected north of the island on Wednesday.

Customs says there were also three crew on board the boat.

The Federal Government says because they asylum seekers arrived by boat and without visas, they could be sent either to Manus Island or Nauru.

A boat carrying 97 asylum seekers was also intercepted near Christmas Island on Tuesday.
