Three asylum seeker boat intercepted

March 24, 2013

Border Protection Command intercepted three boats carrying more than 120 asylum seekers in Australian waters over the weekend.

Initial information suggest that the boats were carrying 63, 41 and 18 people respectively. The passengers will be transferred to Christmas Island for initial identity, health and security checks. Home Affairs’ Minister reiterated that people arriving after 13 August without a visa are at risk of being transferred to regional processing centres at Nauru or Manus Island.
