AN asylum seeker boat carrying 110 people has been intercepted southeast of the Ashmore Islands.
It’s the largest number of people to arrive in one vessel in Australian waters in a month.
The boat was found today by Australian customs vessels Storm Bay and Corio Bay, operating under the control of Border Protection Command, after being detected by a border surveillance aircraft.
Home Affairs Minister Jason Clare said in a statement two passengers on-board the vessel were medically evacuated to Broome hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
The remaining passengers will be transferred to Darwin where they will undergo initial security, health and identity checks.
On November 4, a boat carrying 105 people was located north-west of Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
