Navy intercepts second boat in one day

A second boat carrying suspected asylum seekers has been intercepted off the West Australian coast.

Home Affairs Minister Jason Clare says HMAS Hervey Bay intercepted the boat carrying 65 people west of Cocos (Keeling) Islands today.

The development follows HMAS Bundaberg intercepting a boat carrying 64 people near Christmas Island this morning.

The federal government says people arriving by boat without a visa risk being sent to Nauru or Manus Island.
